Ortho Biologics — PRP & Hylast

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy and Hylast (hyaluronic acid) injections for selected joint and tendon conditions.

Ortho Biologics — PRP & Hylast

Not every orthopaedic problem needs surgery. Ortho biologics use the body's own healing capacity, or joint lubricating agents, to reduce pain and improve function in carefully selected patients. Treatment is recommended only after a detailed clinical assessment and appropriate imaging, with an individualised approach based on the patient's condition and requirements.

Conditions we treat

  • Early and moderate osteoarthritis of the knee
  • Tendon injuries — tennis elbow, Achilles, patellar tendinopathy
  • Partial ligament and muscle injuries in sport
  • Degenerative joint pain with stiffness
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Post-arthroscopy joint discomfort

How it works — what to expect

  1. 1

    Consultation & examination

A detailed history and hands-on clinical examination to identify the exact structure causing pain, instability or stiffness.

  2. 2

    Imaging & diagnosis

X-rays, and where needed an MRI or CT scan, to confirm the diagnosis and plan treatment precisely.

  3. 3

    Suitability assessment

Biologics work best in early to moderate joint wear and selected tendon conditions; advanced arthritis is better served by other options.

  4. 4

    The injection

PRP is prepared from your own blood in the clinic and injected into the joint or tendon; Hylast (hyaluronic acid) is given as a lubricating injection.

  5. 5

    Loading programme

A guided exercise plan after injection is what turns a biological stimulus into lasting improvement.

Procedures offered

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy

Your own blood is concentrated to isolate growth factors, which are injected into the injured tendon, ligament or joint to support healing.

Hylast (hyaluronic acid) injections

Viscosupplementation to improve lubrication, pain and mobility in selected patients with osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease.

Image-guided injection

Accurate placement of the injection into the target tissue for a more reliable result.

Recovery & rehabilitation

Ortho-biologics are non-surgical treatments that use your body's own healing signals, or a joint lubricant, to reduce pain and improve function.

Mild soreness for two to three days after injection is normal. Benefit usually builds over three to six weeks rather than immediately.

Results vary between individuals. Biologics are offered honestly, as one option among several, with realistic expectations set beforehand.

  • Day 0–3: relative rest, ice, avoid anti-inflammatory tablets after PRP
  • Week 1–2: gentle range and isometric strengthening
  • Week 3–6: progressive loading, benefit becomes apparent
  • Month 3: review and decision on further injections
